How counselling can support you

“I think I could handle things better, but I’m struggling right now.”

Many of us know this feeling. Counselling offers a chance to talk openly in a safe, non‑judgmental environment, where you can be heard and supported without pressure or expectations.

Teresa works with a trauma‑informed, person‑centred approach, drawing on a range of evidence‑based therapies to tailor each session to your needs and help you make sense of what’s happening in your life.

Therapeutic Approaches

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a well-researched, evidence-based therapy that can help when difficult memories or unresolved experiences continue to affect your life. Through gentle, guided bilateral movements, EMDR helps your brain reprocess stored memories so they no longer carry the same emotional weight.

Many people find EMDR can bring relief from anxiety, distress, or recurring patterns in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy, making it a powerful option to transform how past experiences affect you.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT is based on learning to manage and accept difficult emotions and circumstances that may be beyond your control. Instead of fighting against what you can’t change, ACT focuses on building skills to manage your responses with more flexibility and self-compassion.

Circle of Security parenting (COS)

COS is designed to support caregivers of young children in building stronger, more secure connections. You’ll learn practical tools to foster healthy attachment, understand your child’s emotional needs, and grow in confidence as a parent. The principles of COS can also deepen awareness and improve dynamics in adult relationships.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Often, we get caught in negative thinking patterns that feel true but aren’t serving us. Through CBT, you’ll learn practical tools to challenge unhelpful thoughts, shift perspectives, and change destructive behaviour patterns.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT combines practical skills with a compassionate approach to help you manage intense emotions and break free from self-destructive patterns. It recognises that we can hold conflicting feelings or desires at the same time, and that both can be valid. Through DBT, you’ll learn tools to regulate emotions, improve relationships, and respond to challenges with greater stability and balance.

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy helps you uncover the deep-rooted beliefs and patterns shaped by early life experiences. These “schemas” often develop as a way to cope with unmet emotional needs but can become unhelpful as we grow. By understanding how these patterns influence your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, Schema Therapy provides tools to shift responses and create healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

The Shark Cage

This program developed by Ursula Benstead, is designed to help women recognise unhealthy relationship patterns and behaviours. It provides practical tools to identify “red flags,” establish healthy boundaries, and build stronger self-worth. Through this approach, clients gain clarity and confidence in creating safer, more respectful connections.
